4. Bye Bye Centroamérica

Centroamérica nos ha dejado una de las estampas de la injusticia del mundo. Atrás quedó nuestro amado México lindo y nuestra sufrida Centroamérica, buenos ejemplos de calor humano y... miseria. Cada vez más nos cuesta asimilar estos cambios brutales de condiciones de vida de este nuestro mundo. Somos iguales, todos tenemos sentimientos, amores, desamores, sueños y desgracias pero qué diferente presente y futuro tenemos en función de donde asomamos al mundo. El paso por Centroamérica ha dejado esta gran huella en nosotros. Asistimos a un mundo injusto y no nos queda otra que adaptarnos lo mejor que podamos. La justicia ni existe ni existirá, el Sistema es demasiado poderoso. Y a pesar de todo hemos vuelto a recibir otra enorme lección de hospitalidad. Quizás el país que más nos ha sorprendido (y gustado) ha sido El Salvador, con esa costa y esa gente tan receptiva…pero humanamente todos son bastante parecidos. Todos sueñan con un futuro mejor y por ello los Estados Unidos se conviertan en el destino deseado, aunque muchos de ellos se lo piensan dos veces antes de ponerse en manos de las mafias. Lo que sí está claro es que Centroamérica depende de las remesas y todo apunta a que eso no les sacará de la pobreza. Cada vez hay más diferencia entre aquellos que tienen algún familiar en los Estados Unidos y los que no y no parece que esto ayude a detener ese ambiente de inseguridad que te persigue allí a donde vayas. Este ha sido el gran hándicap para nosotros. No vamos a mentir que escuchar todos los días la misma historia acaba cansándole a uno. Y eso trae otro sentimiento raro y desagradable: el saber que tú solo estás de paso pero que otros muchos que querrían irse no podrán hacerlo…

Las lluvias que vienen a los Andes nos han hecho cambiar de rumbo y esperar pacientemente a una nueva estación seca. Así decidimos volver a los Estados Unidos y pedalear por estos paraísos naturales que no pudimos hacer el año pasado. Ahora vamos hacia el norte, hacia Yellowstone y de allí a la costa y hacia el sur por la costa. El fin de año lo pasaremos volando a Colombia. El futuro a medio plazo está “atado” y Ushuaia sigue siendo la meta.

Central America gave us a picture of the injustice in the world .We left behind our beloved Mexico and our suffered Central America, good examples of human warmth and…misery.  More and more I struggle to assimilate these brutal differences of living conditions in our world. We are all the same; we all have feelings, loves, dislikes, dreams and tragedies. But what a different present and future we have depending on where we get born in the world!  Crossing Central America left this big mark inside of us. We see an unfair world and there is nothing we can do but adapt in the best way we can. Justice does not exist and will never do, the System is too powerful. But even so, we received another huge lesson about hospitality. Maybe the country that surprised (and pleased) us more has been El Salvador, with its beautiful coast and its warm people…but humanly speaking all the countries are quite similar. They all dream about a better future and the USA is the desired country, even if many of them think twice about putting themselves into mafias´ hands. What is pretty clear is that Central America depends on the money send by the ones who live in the USA, but this will not eliminate poverty. The difference between the ones who have some relatives in the USA and the ones who do not is growing every day. It does not seem that this stops the insecurity feeling which follows you wherever you go. This has been the big handicap for us. We admit that listening to the same story every day is tiring. And this brings another weird and unpleasant feeling with it: knowing that you are only passing through, but many others who wish they could leave will not be able to do it…

The rainy season which will approach the Andes made us change plans and patiently wait for the next dry season. So we decided to fly back to the USA and cycle those natural heavens that we did not manage to visit last year. This time we are heading North, to Yellowstone NP, and from there to the West Coast and South again. We will spend New Year´s Eve flying to Colombia. Our near future is “written” and Ushuaia is still our goal.
